Don’t you just love those moments of spontaneous worship? Times where you don’t need elaborate sound systems or flashy lights? These are some of my favorite moments with God.

I was in Haiti in the summer of 2011 serving a short term mission with my church. One day, after we had finished our kids clubs, we drove a few hours outside of Carrefour (near Port-au-Prince) and went swimming at a beach. On our way home, it had started rain, and it rained hard! It took us hours to get back where we were staying because the traffic was do bad.

When we finally got home, we all ran into the house we were staying at. I’m still not exactly how this next part happened, but one thing led to another and we were all outside playing in the rain! The Haitians were looking at us like we were crazy!

After a bit of this, a few of us were sitting in the back of a truck that was owned by the people we were staying with. I just felt led to sing some worship to God. Everybody in the truck joined in and and was amazing. One of the things that was cool about it was the fact that we were in a different country, worshipping God in his creation.

One of the things that really touched me was that even though in life it drizzles, it rains, and it pours, we can still worship God amongst all the crap we have going on in our lives. That even if it is pouring, we don’t have to be worried or afraid because we have an awesome God who is bigger than all of that.

We were worshipping for what felt like an hour (I’m not quite sure how much time had passed). And afterwards I felt really refreshed after working hard all week. It was there, in Haiti, that I had had the most amazing worship experience I’ve ever had.

Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all the earth: make a loud noise, and rejoice, and sing praise.
